Geology Swag at Becoming an Outdoors Woman

If you’ve found this post, you’re either attending Becoming an Outdoors Woman in Brownwood, Texas this first weekend of November…or you wish you were!  If you’re one of the lucky 100 something women attending the workshop, this is for you.  Here is where you’ll identify your mystery tumbled stone and find additional geology related resources.

I’m Sheila, one of your rock licking T. Rex wearing geology instructors, and I’m very sorry I can’t be there this weekend to see you in person.  I’ll be at a friend’s wedding ridiculously far from Brownwood, please forgive me!  In my absence, I sent ahead a couple hundred geology swag bags for you, a special treat to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Becoming an Outdoors Woman.  Inside your swag bags, you’ll find the following goodies:

Geology Mandala/Coloring Page & Geology Related Blog Posts on Red Shoes. Red Wine.

You never grow out of the therapeutic effects of coloring, so please enjoy the coloring page I designed for you!  I included a mandala, an ammonite, a diamond, crystal prisms, and dinosaur footprints just for fun (download coloring page for more prints here: RSRWGeologyMandala).  And on the back of the page are geology related blog posts that I’ve published on the blog.  I’ve included the links for you below.  Future BOW participants will only receive this coloring sheet and none of the other goodies, these bags were made especially for the 25th anniversary!

Mystery Tumbled Stone

So which tumbled stone did you get in your bag?  Can you identify it using the chart above (download the chart for printing here: RSRWMysteryStoneID)?  I’ve also included a sheet with the stone names and descriptions here: RSRWMysteryStoneGuide.  My personal favorites are jaspers…all of them!

Geology Button/Pin

And finally, a button/pin for your lanyard.  I blog about travel, wine, and hobbies…really just anything I feel like sharing.  Most of my readers come for cruise tips and costume tutorials, but I often share geologic resources with YOU in mind.  I prepared two different pins for this workshop: the first is a picture I took of Balancing Rock at Big Bend National Park, and the second is a picture of a gorgeous tourmaline on display at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.  If you’re also interested in my costume making, travels, and wine posts, find me on Instagram/Twitter/Pinterest @redshoesredwine and we can hang out there!

I hope you all enjoy the workshop this weekend, enjoy your geology swag bags, enjoy the outdoors, and I hope to see you at a future BOW (maybe in my class, yes?)!

  1. Sheila, I missed you at the 25th BOW, but I did receive a swag bag! I love the coloring sheet; the pin is on my name badge; and I think I have a brecciated jasper (it’s red and black or grey – so pretty!). Thank you for thinking of us!

See you at the next BOW!

    1. Awe thank you Sharon! The brecciated jasper is gorgeous! I missed you all and followed the hashtag all weekend (bummed of course, but it looked like everyone had a great time). Hope to see you in the spring. *HUGS*

  2. Sheila, we all missed you at Brownwood. Thank you so much for thinking of us with your swag bag. I can’t believe you fit this into your schedule. See you at the next BOW, if not sooner! A campground is calling us for our next geological adventure.
