Exploring Monte Velho Wine & Food Pairing

In this edition of Supper Club Sips, we explored two delicious Portuguese white and red wine blends from Esporao Monte Velho, and paired these wines with good ol’ American comfort food.

Wines that we sampled:

Monte Velho White 2019

Monte Velho Red 2019

Having a particularly rotten day, comfort food was on the menu, and this turned out to be quite a serendipitous pairing for both Monte Velho wines. We feasted on a large tray of spicy fries paired with the white blend (Antao Vaz, Perrum, and Roupeiro, all from the Alentejo region). The coolness and complexity of the white wine were a great match for the spices and the oils in the fries. And then we paired the intense red blend (Aragonez, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, and Syrah) with burgers and all the fixings. Both are a steal at $10, but honestly I’d pay a lot more for these two gems.

As always, everything was lovely and I appreciate Creative Palate for sending over these fantastic samples, and our friends Cory and Sarah for hosting our Supper Club.
