Little Black Trench Coat: My SCOTTeVEST Travel Staple

Much like that little black dress that every woman has in her closet, which can be dressed up or dressed down depending on accessories and setting, my little black trench coat is just as versatile.  I travel A LOT and prefer to not carry a purse abroad.  So when I was looking for something that would secure my belongings and also be stylish, comfortable, and easy to pack, I found SCOTTeVEST, an online retailer specializing in travel wear.  I’m a huge fan…HUGE!

Featured in this blog post is the versatile coat that my friend, my mother, and myself are all wearing during our travels.  It’s my travel cold/chilly/wet weather staple, SCOTTeVEST Women’s Trench Coat – 18 Pockets – Travel Clothing BLK M, that I always take abroad.  My trench(es) have been all over the United States, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.  I have it in black, mist (light grey), and my mother has it in sage.  We LOVE them.  For more information and product specs on these trench coats, visit SCOTTeVEST’s website.  Otherwise, below is a recap of the places I’ve enjoyed my trench coats (so far).  Many photos were taken before I started blogging, some are very low quality, and none of them were taken by a professional photographer…so they’re unpolished and candid.  Please enjoy the travels of my well worn coats.

When in Rome for a Week in January of 2014 was my first trench coat’s first journey.  Since the weather was cold at night and chilly-warm during the day, it was great by itself or layered with a scarf.  We were warned there were pick pockets, and with this coat I had zero problems.  Read about the week we spent in Rome here.

During our week in Rome, we also took two trips to Florence and Tuscany area, where my little black trench coat was plenty warm.  One of the pockets is perfect for an umbrella as well, so it was nice having one less thing to hold while being ready for rain at any time.  Read about our trips to Tuscany here.

After our time in Italy, we boarded Norwegian Jade for an Eastern Mediterranean cruise and spent time in Naples (Pompeii) and two stops in Greece.  Read about our tours in Italy and Greece here.

We also visited two stops in Turkey during that cruise, where it was definitely cold and rainy, but I was fine!  We visited many ruins, mosques, and museums.  Read about our excursions in Turkey here.

About 18 months later, it was time to cross the Atlantic again, this time my mother would be cruising a British Isles Cruise on Royal Princess with me in her very own SCOTTeVEST trench coat.  She has a tendency to over-pack her purses, so she was able to distribute her “necessities” among the 18 pockets throughout the coat.  This is my mom in the pictures above getting cheeky in London and looking tiny at Stonehenge.  Read about our time in London and our pre-cruise excursion to Stonehenge here.

My friend borrowed my black trench coat and I bought another SCOTTeVEST trench coat in mist.  Depending on the weather in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Guernsey (which all varied), we layered our trench coats with scarves and sweaters if needed.  Read about our excursions in England, Ireland, and Northern Ireland here.

Onward to the colder and windier stops in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, we walked through villages, castles, and standing stones comfortably.  Read about our tours in Scotland here.

Fast forward another 18 months to the Alaskan cruise that my husband and I went on with friends.  Alaska felt a lot like Scotland, maybe even colder (hello, glaciers!), but my little black trench coat performed beautifully as we kissed puppies, hiked, walked on a glacier, and canoed across a lake.  Read all about our Alaskan cruise here.

My husband has a SCOTTeVEST of his own, rarely seen because he’s usually the one behind the camera.  So there are plenty of men’s options on the SCOTTeVEST’s website.  He doesn’t have as many pockets as I do (still, a dozen is a lot!), but men don’t really need to carry as much stuff as us women do anyway.

I can’t say enough great things about their products, which is why I’m recommending it so much here.  In the pictures above, I’m wearing an olive jacket similar to my trench coat throughout Southern/Western Europe.  This jacket, originally purchased from their outlet, has been retired, but I just couldn’t NOT share because I love it so much.  They have plenty more products for women on their website.  I’ve recently purchased a little black travel dress (SCOTTeVEST Deborah Dress BLK M) that I can’t wait to try on the next trip.  I’ll let you know how I like it!  And I’m really itching for another trench coat in red (my favorite color).  Don’t you think I need the red one?
