A Regency Sunrise on the Beach

I spent the better part of last year (the pandemic) working on sewing and craft projects. And with the pause in travel, we’ve been spending about a weekend each quarter in Galveston (about an hour drive from my home). On one such trip, I brought a couple pandemic projects to take pictures on the beach. And I really wanted to take my Lizzie Bennet dress and straw bonnet out for a test run. Here’s the Regency ensemble I pulled together for the occasion.

I specifically upcycled a straw hat into bonnet upcycle to wear to more casual events. It was a quick and satisfying project, and used nothing but an old floppy hat and items from my stash: A Quick Regency Beach Bonnet

And the dress was made as the baseline garment inspired by Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies using sheets and buttons I pulled off an old cardigan: Costuming Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Cotton Dress

With these two pieces, I paired a soft rose pink pasmina for contrast, and a double sided ribbon belt to match the bonnet.

I spent the weekend waiting for the perfect sunset, or sunrise, and enough energy to put on makeup…needless to say, I waited until the morning we checked out of our BnB to quickly snap photos before it got too hot/windy/crowded. The sunrise itself was beautiful with all the clouds, but I don’t love the photos. I felt blah, and I cringe at my running tank tan lines. I think I should make a chemisette to avoid that awkwardness in the future. I did play with some filters and selected some photos I hated the least. The ensemble was nice and comfortable though, which is key in this heat. Enjoy!
