A Quick Regency Sleeveless Spencer: Historical Hogwarts Edition

During this pandemic, I’ve been bouncing around different historical eras and cosplay projects. And following the socially distanced Regency picnic that we attended earlier in the summer, I’ve continued to upgrade my Regency wardrobe, including this quick Historical Hogwarts sleeveless spencer in Ravenclaw blue.

I’ve sewn now three garments (an open robe and two sleeveless spencers) to wear with the white gown I made last year. For my olive picnic spencer and Ravenclaw spencer, I used the bodice pieces from the Simplicity/American Duchess 8941 open robe pattern.

I did make a couple small modifications to the pattern for this spencer. I added a couple inches to the bottom pieces to drop the waistline a little bit, and I also added a wide half moon piece that I pleated as a peplum in the back. As a happy accident, the peplum looks like tail feathers! I also included 5 covered buttons. It’s a simple spencer but I love it! I found a cute raven cameo on Etsy and made a plain black reticule to accent this outfit…just need to decide what color bonnet to make. More to come!
