Costuming Red Carpet Darth Vader

Why wear a basic ball gown on a cruise formal night when I can also be Darth Vader? Especially when on a Halloween cruise! Inspired by Mexico City-based fashion illustrator Guillermo Meraz, I accessorized a stunning black ball gown with the Darth Vader statement necklace I made last year for a dark subtle glam costume mash-up that I wore last October on a Halloween cruise with my costuming friend Tina and my blogging besties Miranda from Spooky Little Halloween and Cheyenne from Sense & Serendipity.

The focal point of this costume is the Darth Vader statement necklace that I made last year for an afternoon tea event. For the downloadable pattern, supply list, and how-to, read here: Costuming Afternoon Tea Darth Vader.

So in this version, I wanted an elegant red carpet look. I found this versatile ball gown with pockets on Amazon, and wore it without the belt. I also wore long opera gloves, strappy red pumps, ruby red teardrop earrings, and a fun fascinator.

I was a little unsure about dragging my chiffon cape around the dining room, so I went back to the room and put it on after dinner. I felt pretty fabulous sitting at the Alchemy Bar and wish I had gotten a full length picture of it. But…we were more concerned with visiting with each other than snapping costume photos. Next time I wear this I’ll be sure to capture the cape as well!

We had a blast living our best glamorous geeky lives that night on the cruise! Up next is a whisky master class from the cruise, and eventually the Halloween cruise itself!
