Party like It’s 1919: Gatsby Style

Known as the Roaring Twenties, the Jazz Age, or commonly the Gatsby Era, this decade of frivolity and progress has inspired us for generations.  The fashion, the cocktails, the music and parties…I love all of it.  Nowadays we put a modern spin on the make-up (at least) and probably don’t stay out as late.  Achieving the look is incredibly easy, inexpensive, and versatile for weddings, brunches, New Year’s Eve parties, murder mysteries, formal nights on cruises, etc.  I put a few outfits together for a brunch at Prohibition in Houston with friends for around $50ish per person.  Here are the essentials…

These three lovely ladies (that’s me in the middle) are all wearing accessories and dresses found on Amazon (they’re all my dresses, size medium, and I usually wear a comfy size 8).  Would you believe I paid around $35 for each of the dresses (link below)?  The gloves and headbands were less than $10 (links below).  And if you squint, you might notice a color theme: we’re very subtly superheros from both Marvel and DC (that’s Captain America on the left in navy, Loki in the middle in dark green, and Aquaman/girl/lass on the right in black and gold).  I told you you’d have to squint.

A very easy costume indeed!  And the men have it even easier, they just need a tuxedo and bow tie.  My husband above is very subtly Hawkeye to go with my Loki (just squint!).  I have medium-long hair but forced a bob with tutorials seen on Pinterest (see my Gatsby Style board here).  Honestly all you need is swagger and a no-care attitude…and sparkling wine!
