The end of the pandmic is finally in sight, and Comicpalooza, Texas’ largest comic book, pop culture, and entertainment convention, is happening in 10 days in Downtown Houston. And after such a long hiatus we. are. ready! Well, almost ready, as I’m still working on a new cosplay to wear to the convention. Here’s what I plan to wear, what I’d like to do and see, and my plans for showing my out-of-town friends some geekery around Houston during their visit.
If you need a recap of my adventures at Comicpalooza in prior years, because it really has felt like an eternity, check out 2019, 2018, and 2017 below. I’ve run the gamut from only wearing one costume to multiple costume changes in multiple days, to learning how to sword fight, to geeking out over geek quilts, to mini-photoshoots out on the lawn of Discovery Green. Ah, memories!

My favorite thing at Comicpalooza, other than people watching all my favorite geeks gather in one place, is the cosplay/costuming. While I’ve made plenty of costumes in the last year and a half of the pandemic, leave it to me to wait until the last minute to start a new one for this event. I’m currently working on the Grady Twins from The Shining to be worn possibly both days of the convention. Detail is my jam, so I’ve been pintucking for days, and I should be piecing the dresses together this weekend.
After almost 2 years of not costuming, nor being in public for that matter, comfort is key. So I’d like to also wear two costumes that are not only super comfortable, but easily recognizable, and really fun! I’ll forever be extremely proud of my McGonagall costume from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, so that one is a must! And a new one I made earlier this year after just really loving the character is my Peli Motto costume from The Mandalorian. They’re both cranky old crones and that’s my mood this year.
I cannot wait to walk the convention floor with my friends. Cosplay, look at other people’s cosplays, shop, snack, and repeat. And I’m really looking forward to the Mandalorian panel on Saturday afternoon (see Comicpalooza’s panel schedule here). I’m going to take so many pictures!!
Joining us this year are my friends Jessi and Paige of Cosplay and Cocktails podcast. Y’all, they’re coming in from out of state for this convention and I couldn’t be more excited! Last month they had me on the podcast again as a guest, and we talked about Houston in general, our cosplay plans, and how we think the pandmic may have changed a few things we took for granted in “the before times.” We even talked about wearing casual Marvel costumes to a local restaurant (we’re coming for you, Phoenicia!) for shawarma…get it? After the podcast we talked about maybe doing lunch at Hobit Cafe, since they’re such Tolkien geeks. Check out that episode here:

So anyway, that’s the plan! Will I see you there?
