Running Costumes: Captain Hook and Mr. Smee

This time last year we were tasting our way through Disney for Taste of Epcot International Food & Wine Festival after running RunDisney’s Wine & Dine half marathon that morning. Part of the fun of running these races through the parks is all the costumes seen along the way; my own, people I pass, and people who pass me. Last year I wore my running Captain Hook and my husband wore his running Mr. Smee from Peter Pan.

My favorite running costume maker is RunSewSweet on Etsy. Jennifer is a runner herself and can really crank out some fantastic Disney (and other fandoms) inspired running costumes. I have four of her creations. The one above is Captain Pirate Pan Hook Inspired Running Costume skirt/Costume/Outfit with Tank top. I added lace cuffs, and with my Cricut made a hook and a feather/crocodile to a purple visor to complete the ensemble.

With my Cricut, I also made Mr. Smee’s eyebrows, glasses, and nose for my husband’s red visor. For his outfit, I bought a Smee inspired technical fabric shirt (Men’s Smee Peter Pan Inspired ATHLETIC Shirt) on Etsy from another maker. A regular cotton T-shirt wouldn’t do for such a long distance. To complete his look, I found the perfect shade of teal athletic shorts (with pockets!) on Amazon, and covered up the obnoxious logo with his race bib.

Shorts: Under Armour Men’s Tech Graphic Shorts, Tourmaline Teal (716)/Tropical Tide, Medium

I think individually, unless you were a huge fan of Peter Pan, you might not recognize either one of us. But together, we nailed it. And we crushed 13.1 miles, drank champagne, and walked another 12 miles through the parks that day. Can’t wait to go again next year! I think I’ll wear my Darth Vader running costume…
