Pairing Paillard Champagne

When you, the everyday wine drinker, think of champagne, you probably think of celebrations and luxurious events. As an everyday wine drinker, I do too. So when I was sent a bottle of Champagne Bruno Paillard Premiere Cuvee to taste and review, I set it asside for the perfect celebratory setting…that never happened. And then it occured to me that spending quality time with friends and dreaming up trips to Europe is perfect in and of itself. This small group of friends inadvertantly became a Supper Club last summer when I was asked to taste wines horizontally (which is something this lightweight cannot do alone). So with Paillard Champagne in mind, here’s what was paired that perfect night…

We delicately sipped Paillard with stuffed red snapper, a sweet spring salad, popcorn, flavored chocolates, limoncello ice gream, and Girl Scout cookies. Yes…all of that! With citrus and dried fruits on the nose, and citrus and toasted bread on the palate, this champagne went with everything. Brut but note brute, this champagne holds its own without being overwhelming, and is certainly replacing that orange label champagne I had always considered to be the pinacle of celebratory sips.

I’ve mentioned before in prior wine review posts that I’m not certified in anything but my own opinions, which can be loosley influenced by the company that I keep, the food I’m eating, and the setting in which the wine is tasted or consumed. I would put wine in the same category as music, in that it is mood driven and very important to my mental state. Please enjoy this review and more as we taste our way through intimate setting wine and food pairings in this special Supper Club Sips series on the blog.

I appreciate Creative Palate for sending over this delicious sample, and our friends Cory and Sarah for cooking and hosting our Supper Club. For more information on Bruno Paillard, visit their website here.
