Pitch Perfect is one of my favorite movie franchises ever. I watch one of the three films every time I fly, quote all three movies in normal conversation, and I’ve made several costumes over the years. So on a recent flight last year, I zeroed in on Beca’s rhineston collar in Pitch Perfect 3 and just had to make it!

In a scene towards the end of PP3, Beca is wearing this cute long sleeve sweater with probably a faux undershirt and collar. I took some screenshots and went on a shopping hunt.
I couldn’t find the shirt, exactly, but I was able to find a faux/detachable collar to use as a base piece. This one came with rhinestones attached, and they came off pretty quickly with a seam ripper. Most of the rhinestones would work for Beca’s collar anyway, so this was a cheap win win!

The stones from the collar, from my stash, and the additional clear packages I purchased weren’t exact, but they were damn close. I arranged them before sewing to see what all would fit, trying my best to honor screen accuracy. Not that anyone would notice any inconsistencies by myself and maybe 2 other people…

Sewing them on was immensely satisfying. I just started from the tip and worked my way up and out, then mirrored the sewing on the other side of the collar, and then added a few small ones until it looked as close as possible to the original.
Crushed it! I’m going to keep it detachable so I can wear it with dresses and sweaters whenever I’m feeling frisky. Will anyone know? I’ll know.
