If eating candy, drinking wine, and watching Practical Magic is wrong, I don’t want to be right! Katy, Christen from Short Sweet & Lovely, and I had an impromptu wine pairing recently and gave little thought to rules and pretentiousness…and it was lovely! Here’s what we paired…
Prosecco & Sour Candy
Our appetizer for the night while we watched Sandra Bullock’s character in Practical Magic, Sally Owens, grow up as a wee witch and have two wee witches of her own was Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) and sour candy. Air Heads are my favorite, but since I had to share, we also ate Sour Patch Kids as well. This was a fun and exciting pairing!
Chardonnay & Candy Corn
While Sally and her sister Gillian got themselves into some serious dark trouble, we paired a buttery chardonnay with a quirky label with Candy Corn (including the chocolate and pumpkin Candy Corn). This was like salad before the main mean, but way more satisfying!
Cabernet & Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
And finally the climax and happy ending of the movie was enjoyed with Cabernet and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Cabernet pairs very well with chocolate and peanut butter, as well as the pot roast Christen made (yes we actually ate real food…we needed to actually!). I also witnessed Katy pour Cabernet directly onto her pot roast…a moment she’s probably not too proud of, but she gets silly when she drinks.
Have you paired any wine with candy this Halloween season?
