After making four poodle skirts last year for a Halloween cruise, I wanted to make my neice a poodle skirt to wear with Tina and I at a future event. And since she could’nt decide on a llama or Hufflepuff badger, I decided I’d make a two-in-one with a reversible poodle skirt! So following yesterday’s post on the original four poodle skirts, today I’m sharing how I made her reversible skirt.

Like with the first four, I found a cute cartoony llama and badger online for the animal pattern. Each color on each animal used scrap fabric and Heat-n-Bond.
Adhesive: HeatnBond UltraHold Iron-On Adhesive Value Pack, 17 Inches x 5 Yards
I made the appliques according to the package directions for each color fabric that would be ironed on by layer onto the skirts. I set them aside and cut the skirt circles using the Simplicity 5403 pattern. This sassy drama llama was simple, except for the blanket…yikes! And the badger is just darling.

Once the two halves of each circle were sewn together at the sides, I positioned the animals off-centered. I ironed on one color/layer at a time, then zigzag stitched every edge of every color of each applique. Then I zigzag stitched black sequin trim in random loops and curves to make a leash. So I had one circle skirt for the llama and one circle skirt for the badger.
Sequin trim: WINOMO Metallic Flat Sequins Holographic Faceted Sequins Trim Ribbon String (Black)
I also sewed on diamond crystals for the badger’s eyes. Because the llama’s eye is closed, I sewed plastic beads for the blanket’s tassels. I like the look! I’m awful at curved hems, hence the reverisble inside (or outside, depending on how it’s flipped). I lined up the grey and the yellow circles with right sides together and stitched the bottom hem, turned the skirt right side out, ironed, and finished the hem with a top stitch. I also installed an invisible zipper.

Zippers: Erlvery DaMain 100Pcs 12 Inch Nylon Invisible Zippers Bulk for Sewing Craft (25 Colors)
I made the waistbands out of the grey fabric, as she’d be wearing wide elastic belts over it either way she wore it.
Belt: GRACE KARIN Women’s Wide Patent Leather Fashion Dress Belt Black M
My neice intended to wear the skirt to a costuming convention in March, but that was when the Pandemic lockdown started, so when we’re all out of this mess, I’ll come back and post pictures of her in it here.
