I am not a fashion blogger.  Quite the opposite, actually.  I am fashion challenged, socially awkward, and cheeky.  So I’m always shocked when I get compliments on my skirts, which happens all the time.  Me?  Seriously?  Okay, I can roll with this…  I started buying novelty skirts on Amazon and Etsy as my own personal approach to “casual Friday.”  They’re cheap, comfortable, and some even have pockets.  With so many friends, acquaintances, and strangers asking where I got this skirt or that skirt, I wanted to share some of my funnest skirt finds here.  Let’s start with the cat skirts, shall we?

Persun Women Navy Cute Cartoon Cat Print High Waist Skater Midi Skirt , Navy, One Size – $15

These are ridiculous!  I am a total dog person but wear these space felines with pride.  I have the cats with black background, and my running partner and office mate has the cats with ivory background.  There’s also one with a navy background (currently in my shopping cart).  But wait, there’s more…

* These are true to size as they have a zipper on the side and elastic in the back.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear “one size” in these skirts.

Grumpy Cat and Cat Unicorn in Space Vograce (Women’s Pink Digital Print High Waisted A-line Flared Pleated Midi Skirt L) – $16

Yeah, I went there.  I waited several weeks for the Grumpy Cat skirt since it came from China.  Whoever designed these awkward designs in Photoshop: you’re my hero.  Do you dare?

* These are true to size as they have a zipper on the side and elastic in the back.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear “one size” in these skirts.

TARDIS Alaroo Women’s Printed Pleated Flared Midi Skirt (Alaroo Women’s 3D Flamingo Printed Pleated Sweet Midi Skirt) – $15

For the closet geek hiding in plain sight.  Blue police boxes are the mode of transportation for the traveling time lord from Doctor Who.  It is rare to wear this and run into someone who recognizes the TARDIS, but when it happens…instant kinship.

* This skirt is true to size as it has a zipper on the side and elastic in the back.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear “one size” in this skirt.

Donut, Starry Night, and Flamingo Alaroo Women’s Printed Pleated Flared Midi Skirt (Alaroo Women’s 3D Flamingo Printed Pleated Sweet Midi Skirt) – $15

Not sure which are more ridiculous: cats or donuts, but I have both!  Also available are tsunami, galaxy, hounds-tooth, florals, and so many more.  These are like Pokémon to me…must collect them all!

* These are true to size as they have a zipper on the side and elastic in the back.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear “one size” in these skirts.

Afibi Women Chiffon Mopping Floor Length Big Hem Solid Beach High-Waist Maxi Skirt (XX-Large, Black) – $20

Not as fun as the cat skirts, but way more versatile.  My all time favorite maxi skirt, great for travel and exploring.  It’s lightweight and rollable (excellent for packing).  I love love LOVE this skirt.

* This skirt is true to size as it has elastic waist.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear a medium in this skirt.

Women’s Fashion Chiffon Polka Dot Print High-waist Summer Long Maxi Skirt (X-Large, 1) – $22

Also travel (and Disney) appropriate are these chiffon polka dot skirts in black or red.  The red one really looks like it belongs on Minnie Mouse.

* These are true to size as they have elastic waist.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear a medium in these skirts.

NINEWE Women White Red Contrast Polka Dot Print Maxi Skater Skirt Redpot US4 – $25

THIS skirt is so striking.  But I wear it not because of the way it looks, but because it’s so comfortable…and it has pockets!!  I’ve worn it to a wine seminar and more recently to the Thrive Creative Conference in The Woodlands.  I love it so much I bought one in black and white as well.

* This skirt is true to size but with no elastic waist.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear a size 8 in this skirt.

NINEWE Women White Red Contrast Polka Dot Print Maxi Skater Skirt Redpot US4 – $25

The skirt on the left is the black and white version of the lovely navy and white maxi skirt that I love so much.  The skirt on the right reminds me of champagne bubbles.  I just love polka dots!

* These skirts are true to size but with no elastic waist.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear a size 8 in these skirts.

Melansay Beatiful Bow Tie Summer Beach Chiffon High Waist Maxi Skirt XXL,Nude Pink – $35

Perhaps the cheapest made skirt of them all, but so flowy and beautiful.  I love wearing these solid skirts on days I don’t feel like sucking in (it comes with a sash) or shaving my legs.  And yet, people love the skirts and think I’m “dressing up”…weird.

* This skirt NOT EVEN CLOSE to being true to size but it does have an elastic waist.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear a size L in this skirt when in ballet flats, and an XL when in heels.  The waist is tight but the sizing is more for skirt length.  Be prepared to send it back if it doesn’t quite fit right.

Women’s Fashion Skirt, Smart Trooper Star Wars Print – $28 (plus shipping on Etsy)

The cheeky skirt that started it all.  My friend and I wore these pencil skirts on Star Wars Day (May the Forth, duh) and had zero reaction from anyone at work.  Really?  There’s a Stormtrooper in a suit on it.  Nothing?  Guess this is acceptable work attire then.  So, we started buying more novelty skirts and the rest is history…

* This skirt NOT EVEN CLOSE to being true to size but it does have an elastic waist.  I weigh 130 lbs with 29″ waist and wear a size XL (because hips).  The fabric is tight and unforgiving, so I went a size or two up from what I normally wear in pencil skirts.

Have you worn any of these or maybe found any other fun skirts out there?  I’d love to hear about it!  You do you, sister!

  1. So…based on your fun blog, I went ahead and ordered a London tele booth/bus and a flamingo skirt. Waiting for both to arrive with fingers crossed. If it’s a win, plan to add grumpy cat to the collection. THX for the inspiration.
